Tariq travelled to Quebec City within days of the shooting at the local mosque. He met with survivors, mourning widows and orphaned children. He attended funerals for the six victims – both in Quebec City and Montreal and realized this attack was one of the worst tragedies in Canada in recent times. He spent hours and days helping the local community by setting up dozens of fundraising and support campaigns. He though the best way for the society not to forget what happened and to pay tribute to those whose perished was to make a documentary. The process of making “Your Last Walk in the Mosque” had started, Tariq made contact with Abderrahmane Hedjoudje and Ubaydah Abu Usayd and decided to produce the documentary.
Abderrahmane Hedjoudje is a medical doctor, researcher and social entrepreneur. He is the writer of several audiovisual projects including the award-winning documentary Californian Muslims. His goal is to mix science, culture and technology to bring education and edutainment to a creative and uplifting level and raise awareness on important topics among mainstream communities. “Your Last Walk in the Mosque” is a project that implies a whole new emotional and historical dimension that Abderrahmane choose to address.
Ubaydah is a researcher in cinematic arts and editor of several short-term documentaries and fictions. He created in 2014 “Le Cerceau”, a group that organizes workshops and training in filmmaking. His research focuses on the issue of the unpresentable in movies and draws concepts from the traditional Chinese and Islamic arts. When he arrived in Quebec he was stroke by the picture of death, a theme he always wanted to depict without daring to, but that was so naturally addressed by the families of the victims and survivors.
